Back to the grindstone
We officially started 'school' about 2 weeks ago & we're having a really great time.
First, we started with the letter 'A' and the story of Peter Rabbit. We drew pictures (trying not to draw outlines) and Naomi's letter 'A' actually has MANY letters hidden in it.
Then 'B' & the 3 Bears. Also, we drew these adorable B butterflies--my favorite part & naomi's. But, I really liked her bear b, too.

And we learned about the number 1 & how there is only 1 sun, but many rays and people who need it everyday.
oh & we spotted this magnificent spider web the other morning & took a bunch of pictures.9.16.2010
Birthday Girl Coming
Naomi & I almost share a birthday (a day apart), but I find myself spending more time thinking about how much fun HER wishlist would be than mine. A new pair of boots is exciting, a pretty necklace momentarily thrilling, a totally unnecessary mac book--over the top (as if i wasn't aiming for the moon already), but nothing beats the delight of watching Mommer (as she is affectionately called by her adoring sister) get something that lights up her eyes...
Here's a list of things I think just might--now to choose which our wallet will approve.

Scores
I've had some fortune when it comes to finding awesomeness in my daily searching. Not all is pictured, I don't want you to hate me!
First, & most exciting: a Vintage RCA Radio that I think can work again. It even has a chord tucked away inside & could use a battery...I'm not electrician, but it may be simple enough for my tinkering self. If you have some inside knowledge, please share!
Second, a sweet vintage collapseable shopping tote, it's a little beat up, but hasn't lost it's charm. I think Naomi will enjoy this, maybe for her playsilk collection as the last basket has fallen apart.
And there's all these:
And something not vintage:
I just couldn't pass this up at the fabric store this morning, but what shall I do with the 3 yards I brought home?? I'm thinking something for leviah would be nice...suggestions please!

Rocking Chickens
Naomi has taken to catching the chickens that escape they're coop & cradling them as if they like it. I don't know much about the thought processes of a chicken, but something about these eyes say, "no thanks".
Regardless, the thrill of catching and cuddling can entertain her and Leviah for some time. And, the hens are still laying...

Highland Blessings
While the title is a joke for a friend, we did have a great time in the mountains on Thursday, as is our annual tradition, we went for Rosh Hoshanah.
the sky was beautifully clear and perfect, the air blew softly with a refreshing breeze, and the water gently rustled over the smoothly worn pebbles. there existed no evidence of what was to come...
abruptly, the waters were invaded.
and the troops gathered their courage.
the invasion took full force and a 'great' wall was underway.
the injured remained safe on the outskirts to document the scene.
at last, the warrior smiles upon her triumph.
there were celebrations of candy and custard, coyote kitchen and picnic dinners--all in all the day was a huge success and the battles waged lead us to war won.

Life as a Schoolhouse
So. I finally came up with the perfect name for this blog. It suits us so well. We're of that persuasion, that the classroom isn't just in a government funded cinder block building, but it is all around us. There are SO many interesting things in the world and at our fingertips & we're all born natural learners. Sometimes we're trained to hate learning, but that's unnatural...
Anyway, inspired by books like the Foxfire series and other blog co-ops, the notion of 'life as a schoolhouse' developed a bit in my mind. So, I'm inviting you to participate in this new notion as well. Everyone has special interests, certain areas of expertise that may or may not have been learned in an actual schoolhouse. As a person who loves learning new things, I'm hoping that you'll share with us your passions in form of a 'lesson' at Life as a Schoolhouse.
I just posted my first lesson, which as mentioned in the guidelines, did just what I thought it might. It reiterated my knowledge and helped me explore new aspects of it so that I might 'teach' anyone who reads it. With that example & the guidelines I hope that you'll be inspired to participate! Everyone is welcome, parents, students, grandparents, single folks, etc so share! Also, since this is a new project for me, I'd love feedback! Please let me know your thoughts...

After
big reveal:
I was tempted to wait because i'm enjoying the guesses! I went in to the Leon's School for my yearly haircut ($10 can't be beat & they are so entertaining). I took this picture & they did great. It was a team effort & a crowd had gathered at my station before it was done. Hair is such a funny thing. I've had it short before, but i keep catching glimpses in the mirror and it is a change. It's simpler than a pony-tail which is what i always had before...

A New Season
Autumn is upon us. At least that's what I keep dreaming; the weather does not yet reflect this change. But, the fall issue of Rhythm of the Home magazine is published today and it gives me hope that those activities dedicated to the cooling weather, altering leaves and blustery breezes will soon occupy our days.
Again I have the honor of having an activity included in the magazine. Thanks to the women behind the scenes bringing this all together.
So many inspirations...
