our curriculum instructed us to make one of these, and I'm excited we did. It's a really neat tool. I'm pretty certain I don't understand all the ins-and-outs, but this is what you make when you count by 3's.
and this is the process of counting by 4's. Naomi discovered that counting by 6's creates the same star. And, she has been playing with it all afternoon making all kinds of patterns. Who knew learning could be fun?! ;-)
Perhaps some of you know how to use the circle for even more learning opportunities?
That looks fun! The blog looks so pretty these days-- love your fonts!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I need to make one of these for Finn.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great idea that I had to pin it!
ReplyDeleteis this Math By Hand? i was just considering purchasing one of their 1st grade kits and found your post. i'd love to know what section this is!
ReplyDeletethanks.
We made this before we discovered Math by Hand. I'm not sure if it's part of the program in the future--but I haven't seen it yet. I heard someone talk about this elsewhere and managed to put one together. It's lots of fun, and a great addition to any math curriculum.
ReplyDeleteHow did you make this?
ReplyDeleteRosie--we found a scrap square piece of board, traced a plate and then marked 10 dots evenly spaced around the outside edge and nailed in our nails! Then we wrote the numbers out and tied a piece of yarn to the first nail and wah-lah! All done! Let me know if you need more instruction!
