When I was a kid we didn't own a VCR. No, I'm not that old, we just lived very un-extravagantly. This characteristic of my childhood always seemed like a misfortune when I was there, but looking back the memories of it all are a blessing.
Unlike anyone else I've ever met, we watched movies via renting a VCR from the local library; something most folks didn't even realize as an option. & once in a while mom would make a very special occasion out of an ordinary day. We'd borrow a VCR & choose one of the movies from our collection of 3--Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea, or Beauty and the Beast. Naomi watched the latter this morning while recovering from an overnight stomach bug.
Oh, sweet nostalgia.
I hope that I create moments Naomi & Leviah will try to recreate with their own children, special times in ordinary days that won't disappear, moments that can only be defined by love...
It's a love topic this week, so i'm joining in.

What does a person often grow in his garden if he works very hard?
beautiful tea cups, what a great find!
ReplyDeleteYou bought it!!! I'm so glad you did-- it was too pretty to give up. I actually-- seriously-- got into a tugging war with someone who outweighed me by a good 200 lbs at the Salvation Army today. I won.
ReplyDeleteSo much to love! The self-portrait of Naomi is amazing. Love the little teacups & saucers and the little greens popping up. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, ho, ho...I rented VCR's from the library too! They were big back then! And, isn't Pandora great. I love it. wishing you happy memories in the making.
ReplyDeleteI can't get comments to work on the round house site for some reason! :(
ReplyDeleteI don't know if there's a secret to the avocados. My mom was obsessed, so it was more of a nostalgia thing. We have been going through tons of avocados lately, and this particular one was actually growing a tip of root when I pulled it out. I figured it was a sign. I had no toothpicks, so I stuck a fork into each side and hung it over a small tupperware. I filled it with water to about halfway up the pit. It's been going for several weeks now. I change out the water every few days so it doesn't get all gross and funky. I've had a lot of roots going for quite some time, but the leaf sprout just came up this week. I guess that's my cue. I don't know if it will survive once it's planted, but something tells me this one is a fighter.
